General information
The travel information on this website is general guidance. Each travel information page shows when it was last reviewed. It is not a guarantee of access, timings or conditions on any particular day.
Permits and access
Permit rules for Sikkim’s protected areas are set by government departments and can change at short notice, including which nationalities may visit which areas. We confirm the current position when we apply for your permits.
Roads, weather and travel times
Hill roads can close for landslides in the monsoon and for snow in winter. Driving times on this website are typical rather than guaranteed.
Altitude and health
Some destinations are high — Gurudongmar Lake sits at roughly 5,430 m and Nathu La at about 4,310 m — and are reached by road in a single morning. We do not give medical advice. Anyone with a heart or lung condition, or who is unsure, should speak to a doctor before travelling to high altitude.
Itineraries and third parties
Our published itineraries are starting points that we adjust for each party. Hotels, transport, attractions and permit offices are run by others, and their own terms apply to their services.
